Ben, the little boy like to tell stories, a lot. And not just any kind of stories. He likes to tell stories that are not real which annoys a lot of his friends. For example, he always goes on top of the hill and screams “BIGFOOT”. This excites everyone because they think there really is a bigfoot on top of the hill. Alas, there is none and Ben knows that. But Ben still makes his story as it is real. He uses props and gives details on how the bigfoot look. All the town people come and wait for the bigfoot. After a long wait, the people suspect that Ben is lying. They all leave but Ben stays still trying to convince people with his lie. He falls asleep. All of a sudden, he hears a “CRICK”. Bigfoot comes out from the woods and calls Ben “littlefoot”. He rides Ben’s bike and takes his dog away. Ben cries “BIGFOOT. BIGFOOT. BIGFOOT!” No one comes to save him. Ben realizes that he has been having too much fun making things up and that he shouldn’t have done that because no one believed him. By the time Bigfoot comes back, it is night time. Ben is still on top of the hill. His family comes looking for him. Ben apologizes for his behavior and heads down home to have a meal. At the end, he learns the importance of telling the truth. But also sets himself to prove to people that he has indeed seen a Bigfoot!
Thoughts:
Ah, Bigfoot! This audiobook is short and sweet. It is about five minutes long which is great. I listened I think three times when I was stuck in traffic. Adam Verner has done an excellent job voicing out all the characters in this book. I even got a book to look at the illustrations which were beautiful. And only did I realized from the book that the story is written from Bigfoot’s perspective. I can use this audiobook to teach students the concept of reading. I can use this in an ELA learning center. The students can follow the text of the book as the audio is going. Terrific book!
