Oh, the duck and her ducklings. Smiling through the rain. Little feet steps on the wet grass. While the mom looks up at the author name.

(I am trying to introduce this book with a poem but I don’t think I am doing a good job!) As my unsuccessful poem explained, the book welcomes the readers with a realistic illustration of the duck and her duckling on the rain. It is witty as it matches the title of the book. The dust cover and the cover has the same illustration so if by any chance the dust cover gets a tear or lost, the cover page still has the charisma for the children to get drawn to. The illustration on the book is realistic and beautiful. The pages are designed with predominantly large illustration. The illustrations are perfectly bordered on each page with the poem either at the top side of the page or at the bottom side.
The poems are lovely and it speaks to the children. Like the poem, “Colors”. The poem talks about different colors and gives examples of the color objects we see around us like red lobsters and blue sky. Children can relate to this poem and even might get influence to add on more verse to this poem (I know I would.)

Thoughts:

What can I say? I think I am beginning to like poetry. I read through the poems and all I could say is that it is incredible. It is simple and yeah some are long but illustrations help. This book has a fantastic collection of poems that the students can relate to. I will choose one poem a week and ask them to add their own verse and make the poem more personal. A fun activity! Oh, and one of the little surprises this book gives us is that it features one last poem at the back of the dust cover and the back cover. So, make sure that you do not skip on that one!
