“D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths”
Illustrator: Ingri and Edgar Parin D’Aulaires
Genre: Traditional Literature
Grade Level: 2ndgrade to 6th grade
This book is about the story of Greek Gods and Goddess on
how they came to be. It goes into details on why they were chosen to be God and
what did they do to become a God. The stories sometimes make you question onto
why Gods would do such a thing to mortal but you can’t help but feel
sympathetic towards them. Like Zeus changing a moral into a cow and Hera
sending that poor cow to some other places! The book is divided into three
contents. First part is about Zeus and
his Family, second part is about Minor
Gods, Nymphs, Satyrs, and Centaurs and the third part is about Mortal Descendants of Zeus. The first
content of the book must be read chronologically to get the full story of
thirteen great Gods. The second and third content of the book, you can read the
book by skipping chapters to your favorite God. But to get the whole picture it
is recommended to read chapter by chapter.
Thoughts
I am and have always been interested in Greek Mythology.
This book was so addictive that I could not bear to put it down. Even now I
still find it really enjoyable to read just before I go to bed. This book is
great as it divides the book mainly illustration and little text. The
illustration is bold and colorful that engages students interest on reading. I
will read this book to students and act it out to make it interesting for them.
A must read for anyone (even adults) interested in Greek Mythology.
